The Alhambra Chamber Land Use and Economic Development Committee met Thursday, April 4, where committee members learned about key aspects of Alhambra’s recent zoning code update and voted to support a housing development project on Main Street.
Representatives from Intracorp, a developer of multi-family homes, gave a presentation on a project they have been working on for three years at 801 E Main Street, currently an empty lot between Cordova Street and Granada Avenue. The project would have a variety of housing options including affordable units, coming out to a total of 49 homes.
They asked for the Chamber’s support to acknowledge that there’s a need for housing in Alhambra, this project addresses that, and meets the standards laid out by the new zoning code. Some committee members expressed they wished there was some kind of retail or mixed-use element to the project, but acknowledged the height constraints set by the city council for buildings on Main Street.
The committee voted to support the project and it will go to the board for consideration.
